Why sssiii?

Say it “see”.

Like the sea, and like seeing. We mean both.

We're a two-person studio in Kelowna, Slava and Igor. We build the app your members log into, with your name on it, where they book, pay and keep up their practice.

The name, in a few moves

sss is the sea.

The sound of waves, of breath, of the beach.

iii is the eye.

The dot on an i is an eye. Odin gave one of his for a drink from Mímir's well, under the roots of the world tree, and came back wiser. He hung on that same tree for nine nights to bring back the runes, the letters the old North wrote in. After that he looked at the world with one eye, the one that knows. One eye open is a wink, and the wink is in the name too.

s is analog, i is digital.

An s is a wave: the room, the body, the practice the way it has always been done. An i is a line and a point: the 1, the cursor, the screen. We work where the two meet.

Thrice great, twice.

Hermes Trismegistus, the figure the old Hermetic writings are credited to, means “thrice-great Hermes”. sss is three. iii is three. Three and three make six: the sides of a hexagon, the faces of a cube. The cube comes back at the end.

Put the s and the i together

Side by side they spell si. That's our mark, and it's how you say the name. In Spanish, sí means yes.

That's the work too. Members paying the people who teach them is the first thing we build.

Seven principles, seven true things

Each of the seven Hermetic principles turns out to be something true about how we work.

  1. Mentalism “The All is Mind.”

It starts as a sentence. Tell us what your members do, and we show it to you running, not a mockup.

    Try it →
  2. Correspondence “As above, so below.”

Your brand on top, one engine underneath. What we build for one client, every client can switch on.

    How we build →
  3. Vibration “Nothing rests.”

We ship every week. Software that sits still is dying.

    What arrived this autumn →
  4. Polarity “Everything is dual.”

Analog and digital, the room and the screen, s and i. Where the two circles overlap is the product.

  5. Rhythm “Everything flows, out and in.”

A practice is a rhythm: the daily sit, the weekly class, the yearly retreat. We build for coming back, not for one visit.

  6. Cause and Effect “Every cause has its effect.”

We count. Every booking and every payment can be traced, and nothing in the numbers is magic.

  7. Generation Everything is made by two.

Two people, one studio. Slava holds the brand and Igor builds it, in the same room, so nothing gets lost between them.

The seven principles are from The Kybalion (1908), and the old lines are its own, shortened. The tradition it drew on is much older. The book calls the seventh Gender, from the Latin for begetting. We say Generation.

The first member platforms

Pythagoras ran a school at Croton, in the south of Italy, about 2,500 years ago. It took members, kept new ones silent through their first years, and opened the teaching to them in order. At Eleusis, near Athens, people went through the rites together, a new group every year.

A twelve-week breathwork programme whose levels open as you go has the same shape. We build the gate, the path, the levels, and the door that opens when someone's ready.

Words we work with

universe
Latin universus, “turned into one”. Same root as verse. One universe, one verse.
brand
Old English for a burning, a torch. Later, the mark a fire leaves.
studio
Latin studium, zeal, eager devotion.
member
Latin membrum, a limb of one body.
spell
Spelling a word and casting a spell come from the same old word for telling. Words, said out loud and meant.
grammar
Greek for the art of letters. In French it bent into grimoire, a book of spells, and in Scots into glamour, a spell that changes what you see.

Old practices, new rails

The practices our clients teach are old: meditation, breath, movement, retreat. Our part is the new rails under them, so the person who teaches gets paid, and the person who comes back finds their place kept.

The cube

Look at a cube from one corner and its outline is a hexagon. Something solid, seen from the right angle, becomes something flat. As above, so below, in one picture. It's also the cell of a honeycomb, which is a nod to MyHive.
